Since 2004, Berlin’s The Go Find have been releasing under-appreciated LPs of electronic laced bedroom pop whose sound falls somewhere between The Postal Service’s laptop grooves and labelmate B. Fleischmann’s introspective, slow tempo pieces. In February, 2010, the band will release their third record, the intriguingly titled Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen, Only Not Tonight. With this latest effort, the band continues their slow progression away from the more pop oriented compositions of their debut, Miami, toward a sound that is more expansive in its instrumental approach and increasingly narcotic in its groove.
Case in point is the title track from The Go Find’s upcoming LP on Morr Music. “Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen, Only Not Tonight” is a beautifully composed, spellbinding piece of music which makes the most of its five and a half minute run time. It begins with a simple rhythm executed by guitar, bass, and drums, but reveals more of its character in slow waves: a bit of synthesizer shading peeks out from a corner, a hint of saxophone underscores a chord, a bit of delay fleshes out a vocal phrase. Before you know it, The Go Find have taken that simple beginning and orchestrated it into a captivatingly layered statement, its various instruments staking their claim in a polyphonic whirlwind. The song ends with a satisfying resolution, but the two minutes which precede it are about as elegant and intelligent as anything you’ll hear from an “indie” band this year.

I don’t care where they come from, it’s one of the best and most innovative tracks I’ve heard this year, Ok it’s early yet but it will be hard to beat. May even move Muse to a dusty play list
