Italian producer Bob Rifo has been creating bangers under the name of The Bloody Beetroots since 2007, earning a big reputation across indie dance blogs and lots of club play without having released a proper debut record. That will all change on August 22nd, when Dim Mak releases Romborama, a collection of hits like “Butter” and “Cornelius” as well as a slew of new material. It is an album destined to find a beloved place in the record collections of countless hipsters who aren’t afraid to get down, cozying up next to releases by K.I.M., Miami Horror, and The Whip.
“Awesome” features vocals courtesy of Chicago/Detroit hip-hop act The Cool Kids, who lend a fantastic, elastic delivery to the proceedings. Their clever rhymes float over a glassy, pulsating, synthesizer-driven track. Notes slide down like Doppler-effected sirens as 808-flavored drum tracks snap heavy on the snare. The balance between the two groups’ contributions is very well executed, the stuttering synths acting as a third party to The Cool Kids’ vocal call and response. A smart move here, and one which runs contrary to the prevailing habit of the genre, is the brief run time; at just over two and a half minutes in length, “Awesome” is an hors d’oeuvre, not an entrée, and it leaves the listener salivating for the main course.

Great tune, but I find it funny that they grabbed the synth stabs from Warp to re-release under this tune. Especially when Warp just hit a few months ago. Not the most original of moves. Cool Kids++
