There is nothing wrong with your speakers–do not adjust your headphones. Pictureplane is just a glitchy kind of guy, is all. At the ripe old age of 24, Travis Egedy has been producing music for over half a decade and has garnered some well-deserved attention with last year’s release of Dark Rift. Here in Denver, Egedy is also know for being the man behind Rhinoceropolis, a warehouse-art-performance space where he hosts concerts, parties, and lives.
“Goth Star” is a little bit like being slapped in the face and liking it. Pictureplane takes a crunchy, buzzing dance track, crawls inside it, and brings the walls down on top of himself. The sound cuts out intermittently, loops get sampled into dislocated grooves, and an implied static fuzzes the fringes. However, it is all mindful madness, and Egedy has the steady hands to keep “Goth Star” from ever falling out of orbit. He thrives on the tension which bubbles over along that line between chaos and control, and this track has both in just the right measure.

Kinda reminded me of the choppy feel of Girl Talk’s early stuff, but had a smooth aura to it like a teengirlfantasy track.
