Their record label describes Stockholm’s O’Spada as “a bastard child between Prince, Jackson 5, and Justice,” and while that’s a good start, it’s more accurate to describe them as a synthesis of acts that aspire toward such an amalgamation (think Junior Senior or fellow Swede Juvelen). For a debut single, “Time” is confident and crisply produced. Vocalist and band namesake Julia Spada has an expert handle on the early 1980s fauxsetto approach and the backing track has both the funkiness of a retro perspective and the cool touch of contemporary indie dance music.
Something about “Time” which is immediately evident is how well it will lend itself to remixes–Midnight Juggernauts would tear this up–so it’s convenient that the band has a remix contest open with the winning track to be pressed as the flipside to the vinyl single and press mailings (raw tracks here). If you think the band can do better, there’s your chance to prove it.

Apathetic birthday-cake-eating is the coolest.

Hmm… I think if I was drunk I could get really into this, but otherwise it falls short. A remix would definitely help this song out so kudos to the band for having the contest.

it sounds like the intro to a very good song, but it lacks that launching punch line, I agree though, remix is the way to go
