Shit, this one is going to get a lot of mileage. London’s Punks Jump Up give this track a treatment that lands halfway between Cut Copy and Miami Horror and all the way to awesome. It’s the sort of reworking that will probably make the original feel naked by comparison, but there is enough of the original here to bode well for Miike Snow’s upcoming self-titled debut.
Miike Snow band is comprised of two Swedes (Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg) and one American (Andrew Wyatt), so this remix is truly an international affair. “Animal” has a perfect arc; the slow, instrumental build of the beginning gives way to hot DFA-style cowbell action and heavy synthesizer purrs. The sum total makes you think that somewhere, right now, there is an amazing club filled with people dancing to this track.
