Jaill‘s music may be the most exciting thing happening in all of Milwaukee right now; their songs bounce off the walls like a six year old after a candy binge. The foursome first shared their lo-fi meets garage antics on 2009′s There’s No Sky (Oh My My), whose frantic title hints at their off-the-rails energy and whose tracks got them signed to Seattle’s Sub Pop label. While the ebullience of their music speaks for itself, it appears the band is similarly enthusiastic: their next album, That’s How We Burn, will be released on July 27th, only eight short months after their signing.

Burn‘s second track is “Everyone’s Hip,” a brief blast of electric guitars and crashing drums with some unexpected vocal harmonies tossed in for good measure. Vincent Kircher’s lyrics carry an understated sense of humor and his delivery is perfectly tailored to Jaill’s musical ethos–clipped yet melodic, and always just barely under control.

With a song as punchy and punky as “Everyone’s Hip,” it’s easy to lose sight of the mature musicianship at work, but make no mistake: beneath its maddening facade, this is a smart, well-composed track. Its different passages and subtle strengths (a rhythm change here, an over the top drum fill there) reveal themselves over subsequent listens, making it an engaging blend of the visceral and–I daresay–the intellectual. The latter is probably not a word the band would lob about in regards to their recordings but the truth is they probably should.
