If their flavor melding rock ‘n’ roll is any indication, the members of Seattle, Washington five-piece Black Whales probably have some pretty bitchin’ music collections. The band first made a splash with Origins, their 2009 debut EP, and is preparing to unleash their first full-length later this year.

In mid-November, the band treated us to the first single from the as yet untitled LP, the shape-shifting “Rattle Your Bones.” The track is a slightly bluesy, psychedelic-leaning number in the spirit of The Brian Jonestown Massacre or Black Mountain. However, the boys in Black Whales have more pep in their step than either of these other acts, injecting a rambunctious, harmonica-led bridge into the middle of the song’s otherwise brooding core. It’s a clever way for “Rattle Your Bones” to demand the listener’s attention and feels surprisingly natural nestled between the more austere passages.

You can pick up the Rattle Your Bones 7″ courtesy of New Canada Records and keep an eye out for the full set of tunes later this year.
